Decking

Regular cleaning can help prevent dirt and organic material from accumulating on your garden decking. Depending on the timber and its original treatment, additional maintenance may also be recommended over time. Always follow the manufacturer’s care instructions.

The lifespan of a timber deck depends on factors including the timber, treatment, installation, maintenance and conditions it is exposed to. Pressure-treated decking is treated to provide additional protection against decay, but it should still be installed and maintained according to the manufacturer’s guidance.

Many timber decking kits are designed to make assembly more straightforward for competent DIYers, with the necessary components and instructions provided. The difficulty will depend on the size and complexity of the deck, so professional installation may be preferable if you’re not confident carrying out the work.

Decking needs a suitable, stable foundation that can properly support the completed structure. The preparation required will depend on the site and the particular decking system, so follow the installation instructions supplied with your chosen kit.
